The ISLE Classic Soft Top Stand Up Paddle Board is a beginner-intermediate level board that won’t make a dent in your wallet. Just don’t dent it on the rocks!
There are two different lengths to choose from – either nine foot eight inches (9”8”) or ten foot eight inches (10’8”). Although this paddle board doesn’t come with a deck grip, the soft top allows your feet to be firmly planted, and not feel like you’ll slip off. Both versions of this board feel quite light, and is probably better suited to flat water paddling over small surf conditions. This is not to say you cannot have a go in the surf, but the board can tend to be thrown around a bit, especially in choppy or windy conditions. Features The most noticeable feature that comes to mind when talking about this paddle board is it feels virtually unbreakable! The board has been designed using blow-molded polyethylene, much the same way as kayaks are constructed. It can take all but the most serious abuse, and wont even blink should you decide drag it through a rocky river side. You have a lot of storage with the Imagine Surf V2 Wizard Angler SUP. This consists of 2 hatches for storage (one at either end of the paddle board), a cargo bay, and deck bungees. Also included is a built-in flip up seat back, which means that if you've been out paddling for hours, you can take a rest from standing and paddle the board just like a kayak. For fishing devotees, the Angler has four fishing rod mounts, two rod holders, and two drag-anchor cleats. Because of the Imagine Surf V2 Wizard Angler SUP having a 336 liter capacity, it can easily hold two individuals, or any combination of kids, dogs, camping gear - the maximum load capacity is 305lbs (138kg). Dimensions The Imagine Surf V2 Wizard Angler SUP is eleven feet long (11’), and is thirty-five inches (35”) wide and 8 inches (8”) thick. What this means for you is absolute buoyancy within the water. You'd practically require a boat to hit you to fall off this thing! With regards to fishing off a SUP, these sort of dimensions are fantastic - the last thing you want to be doing is fighting to get your catch on board while trying to keep your balance! This particular paddle board does weigh in at 70 lbs (31kg), so is more heavy than some other SUPs out there. If you do not have much in the way of upper body strength, it could be difficult to move across long distances, although this is easily remedied with a SUP/Kayak pull along trailer. Accessories The Imagine Surf V2 Wizard Angler SUP comes with the following accessories:
Brand information Imagine Surf started in California during 2006. Everyone in the company loves paddle boarding and express a common approach to make paddle boarding as accessible as possible everybody. Their tag line "We make Paddleboarders" is the basis of this philosophy, and it is replicated in each board they construct. They also have Iconic Waterman, SUP pioneer and board designer, Dave Kalama, as an integral part of their design team. Performance The Imagine Surf V2 Wizard Angler SUP will not win any races or beauty pageants, however it will get you where you're going, although at a far more moderate speed than other stand up paddle boards. This stand up paddle board is great in choppy water, and tends not to get the “slap“ that other SUPs could get in rough conditions. You will not be falling off in any jetski wake using this baby! Consumer ratings/reviews A solid Stand up paddleboard of quality and durability that is great for beginners and even those more advanced. A good trial before you purchase more top of the line SUP - but you'll have enough experience to know it's a sport you want to continue to pursue. Great value. I ordered this board for myself after kayaking on the Pugent Sound and having to leave the dogs behind. I was looking for something we could use and still be able to take the dogs along. During the first trip out on the new boards, our 6 month old puppy decided he wanted to go to and swam out to my husband. He was able to easily help the dog onto the board where he rode for 4-5 hours. I am new to sup, but I have been surfing for years. I got this board mostly for cruising and fishing. This board is perfect for that as it is super stable and very bouyant. I can fit myself at 180 lbs and my dog at 70 no problem. I can easily see myself using this board for river camping trips that I used to use a canoe for. Pros
Cons
Price To find such a tough stand up paddle board that could also be used much like a kayak, you would probably normally be shelling out more than $2000, so to have the ability to buy the The Imagine Surf V2 Wizard Angler SUP under $800 a fabulous deal. The Imagine Surf V2 Wizard Angler SUP Summary This paddle board is ideal for those wishing to go fishing on their SUP, or to experience a more relaxed experience paddling in different conditions. The Imagine Surf V2 Wizard Angler SUP has superb dimensions for all of the above, and can help keep you upright in the most trying conditions ( and also includes lots of room to move on the deck). It can take a great deal to damage this board, so is also suitable for those wanting to take extra family members (including dogs) on their SUP adventures. You'll find three boards in the BIC Sport Dura-Tec Stand Up Paddleboard series to pick from, and below we will explain why they are great entry level paddle boards, which will also keep you going in the water as you get more experienced.
Features
Dimensions There are three board dimensions to choose from, but we recommend that if you weigh under 200lbs (90kgs) you choose the nine foot 10 inches (9’ 10”) model. This is thirty two point five inches (32.5”) wide and four point six inches (4.6”) thick. This particular board weighs about forty pounds (40lbs/18kg). If you weigh more, you will be better off going for the eleven feet four inch (11’ 4”) model, as this has more volume (205L). The width of the board is thirty two inches (32”) and four point five inches (4.5”) thick. This board weighs in at forty one pounds (41lbs/18.5kg). If you are of petite or lightweight build, then why not get the nine foot four inches (9’ 4”) model? It could take longer to master, due to its shorter length, but will be far more dynamic in the water when you get experienced. The width of this board is twenty seven point five inches (27.5”) and weighs in at thirty pounds (30lbs/13.5kg). The volume of this model is 120L. There were other sizes originally in the BIC Sport Dura-Tec Stand Up Paddleboard series (as you can see by some of the product images), but these seem to have been streamlined by BIC into the three currently now available. Construction The BIC Sport Dura-Tec Stand Up Paddleboard is made from BICs Dura-Tec construction. This combines an ultra-durable polyethylene outer shell (a bit like a kayak, but lighter in weight) with a full polyurethane foam core (much like a surfboard). The board is thermo-formed in steel molds to ensure consistent and accurate reproduction of the original shape. All of this guarantees great board durability and ruggedness. Accessories The BIC Sport Dura-Tec Stand Up Paddleboard comes with a 10 inch FCS Dolphin center fin. In addition, you get an integrated diamond-groove deck pad to assist with maintaining a firm grip on the board. There's also an integrated leash plug and integrated deep-set carry handle for easy transport, but sadly, you will need to purchase a separate paddle and leash, since they are not supplied with the BIC Sport Dura-Tec Stand Up Paddleboard. Brand information BIC sport is a French company, and has now been involved in making watercraft since 1979. Since that time, they have produced quality wind surfers, surfboards, and stand up paddle boards. And if you're wondering, yes they are the same company which makes the famous BIC pens and shavers! Performance This stand up paddle board is fantastic for just about any beginner trying to get into this sport. As long as the right size is ordered, you can learn how to SUP easily on the BIC Sport Dura-Tec Stand Up Paddleboard, and once you get more experienced you can use it to do more advanced paddle boarding. These boards have a fairly flat deck also, so are ideal for SUP yoga. They are also well suited to either flat water, or beach break paddle boarding. These boards perform in a similar fashion to EPS boards, and tend to sit ON the water. Stand up paddle boards (and surfboards, for that matter) made from fibreglass tend to sit IN the water. This means nothing really, other than some people like one to the other, and there can be cases where it is more noticeable, such as on a windy day. Consumer ratings/reviews The rubber is peeling up a bit, but not enough to complain… If your over 220 pounds, hold off for a longer bigger board. Great board. Easy for beginner and experienced. Cleaning is my only criticism, the muddy water tends to stain the board and becomes hard to get off. I've bumped into paddle boats without dents, very durable. Got this for my birthday, and I love it. Perfect all around paddle board. Well constructed, great quality. If you're worried about ordering a paddle board online, don't! Online delivery was great, and packing was "not-a-scratch" perfect. Great for our whole family - we're ready to order a 2nd! Be sure to plan for someone to be home to sign for the delivery. Pros
Cons
Price The BIC Sport Dura-Tec Stand Up Paddleboard series is listed under $900, and individual pricing is determined by the board dimensions you purchase. These boards are definitely priced higher than some of the other SUPs we have reviewed on paddleboardssale.com, so that should be considered in your overall decision, but when it comes to build quality, they will last as long as more expensive makes and models. BIC Sport Dura-Tec Stand Up Paddleboard Summary The BIC Sport Dura-Tec Stand Up Paddleboard series is a fantastic introduction into the enjoyable world of stand up paddle boarding. They are easy to ride, stable, and an excellent option for both flat water paddle boarding (on lakes etc) or down at the beach (in small to medium waves). BIC has a great reputation when it comes to quality construction, and these boards aren't any different. If you want a board that will last you as long time, then the BIC Sport Dura-Tec Stand Up Paddleboard series is undoubtedly worth considering. Buying a stand up paddle board is a fantastic time, however when you pick up your board you might be unhappy to know there are paddle board accessories you need but don't have. Fear not - we've come up with a list of top 10 paddle board accessories to get you going!
Paddle board accessories - Paddle Most notably, it's hard to do much paddle boarding without having a paddle! Many boards do have a paddle contained in the package, but there are some that don't. Even the stand up paddle board packages that do come with a paddle tend to provide an aluminum paddle only. These paddles are perfectly fine to get you started, but when you progress you will discover you'll need something with additional flex and strength. A carbon fiber stand up paddle board paddle has both those qualities, not to mention being lighter to hold and also buoyant in the water (you don't want your paddle to sink any time you drop it!). Paddle board accessories - Leash/leg rope Although not as essential on a stand up paddle board as a surfboard, you can easily still make great use out of a leash/leg rope. These attach to the tail of your board, and then to your leg so that if you fall off your board, if won't drift away from you, out of reach. When you purchase a leash/leg rope, make sure to buy one that is the approximate length of your board. Paddle board accessories - Deck grip To help keep your feet securely planted on the board whilst paddle boarding, you'll need some deck grip. Deck grip is commonly made out of EVA foam, and covers the region of the board you stand on and gives grip so you won't slip off. Paddle board accessories - Fins The fins of a stand up paddle board assist you to go into the direction you are paddling. If you were not to have any fins, you would slide all over the place and have no control over the board. All boards use a large center fin, and dependant upon the style of the paddle board, some have side fins on both sides. When deciding on a fin for your stand up paddle board, you need to make certain which type of fin box you have. Some less well-known brands use their own proprietary system, whereas others will use either FCS or Futures. These are not compatible with each other, so if in doubt, get a hold of the paddle board manufacturer. It also pays to buy fins according to what type of paddle boarding you'll be mostly doing. If you'll mainly be flat water paddling, your center fin should have more surface area, while a surfing fin will have less surface area and be more rounded (somewhat like a dolphin's dorsal fin) to permit easy manoeuvrability in waves. Paddle board accessories - Rail guard/tape With your new paddle board, it will not take very long to realize it's easy to bang the side of your board with your paddle. Eventually, this can result in dings to your board, and can damage your paddle. The most effective solution is to add some rail guard or tape to the edges of your paddle board (known as the ‘rails’). These are really simple to apply, and keep the board looking new for longer, in addition to defending it from inadvertent taps from your paddle. Paddle board accessories - Cover When you are not using your stand up paddle board, it should be protected - both from the weather and from inadvertent user interaction. A quality board cover will protect your board when travelling on the roof of your vehicle, and help prevent accidental dings when carrying in/out of the car to/from your storage area. Most are well padded and have shoulder straps, which can make it easier to carry your board to/from your paddling destination. Consider ones which have a silver looking exterior, since these can reflect heat off of the board, and are also water-resistant. Paddle board accessories - Surf racks/storage solutions Stand up paddle boards are quite big, and can be challenging to move and store. For those who have a small car, try to find some soft racks, as these can be stored in the boot of the vehicle if not being used. When going out for a paddle, they can be temporarily connected to the roof of your car to transport your paddle board. When storing your SUP within your garage, it pays to try and keep it off the ground. There are several different solutions to this, including:
Paddle board accessories - Ding repair kit The time will come sooner or later when you ding your board. This may be from inadvertently scraping a rock to a heavy knock with your paddle. If the ding is big, you will be best off taking it to a skilled surfboard repairer, however if it is just a small ding, you can do the repair yourself. Whilst not looking as nice as a pro job, it will keep your board watertight and in the water! Some kits cover both fibreglass and EPS boards, however if not, just be sure to determine what your board is made of, to find the correct repair kit. Paddle board accessories - Deck bungee For those who are looking to go flat water paddle boarding, a deck bungee (also known as a deck rigging kit) is a great option should you not already have one built on your paddle board. A deck bungee generally hooks up to the front of your paddle board, and will let you store extra things you may want to take with you for a day out paddle boarding - water bottle, lunch, clothing, etc. An extremely good option to achieve the most out of your flat water paddling! Paddle board accessories - Additional clothing Paddle boarding wearing a bikini is usually how the sport is advertised (to ladies, at least!), but the reality is that during the summer - when you do not need a wetsuit - you'll need some form of protection when on the water for extended periods of time. Things like the O'Neill Superlite Jacket are good, as they protect you from the suns harsh rays, and also have additional storage options for small items like your phone, iPod, energy bars etc. Check out Paddle Boards Sale for more SUP reviews and articles. |
